The 19th-century artist and craftsman William Morris once called Bibury "The Most Beautiful Village in England" during his visit, and it’s easy to see why. Located in Gloucestershire, just 6 miles north-east of Cirencester, Bibury is famous for its charming Arlington Row. These picturesque cottages, built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, were later converted into weaver’s cottages in the 17th century. The weavers produced cloth which was sent to Arlington Mill, also in the village, for the process known as ‘fulling’. Arlington Row is so iconic that it’s appeared in British passports and on postage stamps, and its beauty has also led to its inclusion in various TV and film productions, including the 2007 film Stardust. Bibury’s charm doesn’t end there – it’s a popular destination for Japanese tourists, largely due to a visit by Emperor Hirohito during his European tour. The village is also home to the Church of St. Mary, dating back to Saxon times, and Bibury Court, a stunning Jacobean mansion built in 1633. Don’t miss the oldest working trout farm in Britain, established in 1902, and the world’s first horse racing club, ‘The Bibury Club’, founded in 1681. Join me as we explore the timeless beauty of Bibury!
