Bearing Freezer Hack - Does It Work? - Road Bike Maintenance
As regular viewers of my channel know, I’ve done my fair share of bearing replacement videos. But people keep telling me in the comments section that I’m overcomplicating it, and to fit the bearing, you just need to stick them in the freezer. Pressing a bearing back into a hub can be a tricky job. The bearing is made of hard steel, and the hub is a soft alloy. One wrong move, and it’s goodbye hub. This is why you’re supposed to use a press. So, what’s the freezer technique? Well, the myth goes that if you put a bearing in a freezer for long enough, it’ll shrink, and then it’ll just drop into the hub, and when it warms, it’ll expand back, and fit tight. Sounds simple enough, so lets give it a go. *About Ribble Valley Cyclist:* I am a regular road cyclist based in the North West of England.
