For more information, visit https://www.hoover.org/events/fight-human-rights-lessons-afghanistan ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Nader Nadery is an honorary senior fellow at the Asser Institute for International and European law and a former member of the peace negotiation team for the Afghanistan Doha Peace Process. He also served as chair of the independent Civil Service Commission of Afghanistan and senior advisor to the Afghan president on public and strategic affairs as well as on human rights issues. Before joining the government, Nadery served as director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit and for seven years he served as commissioner of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. H. R. McMaster is the Fouad and Michelle Ajami Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is also the Bernard and Susan Liautaud Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute and lecturer at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He was the 26th assistant to the president for National Security Affairs. Upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1984, McMaster served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army for thirty-four years before retiring as a Lieutenant General in June 2018.
