In Part 2 of the Basics of control systems, we talked about the DDC controller, control loop response, and some common terms related to control systems like setpoint, offset or error, differential and throttling range, or proportional band.
There is five types of controller loop responses which are as follow:
Two Position Control
Floating Control
Proportional or P Control
Proportional + integral or PI Control
Proportional + Integral+Differential or PID Control
We talked about an example of an Electric heater control which is a two-position control response. We also talked about control of the floating damper actuator which uses a floating control response.
Proportional, PI, and PID control are all analog controls where control output signal varies from 0% to 100%.
PID controller is used in temperature control loop to control the cooling or heating valve actuators.
We also discussed about setpoint, control point, offset or error, differential and throttling range, or proportional band.
