Today's topics are as listed below: 1) One of my hives has a good population, but only has drone brood. Do you think they can make a successfully mated queen, or should I order a queen? 2) Does it matter where the entrance is on a single Langstroth brood box? 3) I have a very dirty (very very nasty) beesuit. What is the best way to clean them without throwing it in the washing machine? Tide Free and Gentle (this is an affiliate link) https://amzn.to/406lsWZ This is the Action Packer tote that I purchased, it's rugged and holds water: https://amzn.to/3lBx4lY (this is also an affiliate link). 4) I had a problem with crystallized honey in the frames last fall. Will these residual crystals get cleaned out in the hive before the bees store nectar? 5) Have you ever used a Russian Scion in your apiary? I am very interested in all options for swarm management and would love to have your thoughts. 6) What can I do about a hive that had a fire drill and went back in? I hate to open the hive in the cold to look for queen cells. 7) Someone mentioned that bees have a difficult time jumping the gap between the brood and super in winter. I want to know if you have any thoughts on it? 8) Would you use sugar syrup instead of smoke in a wet climate like Ireland? I'm afraid to add water to the hive. 9) You showed an audible alarm device you use in your apiary to discourage bears. I plan to put units in front of and behind two hives. Now I think I should have one unit on each side, what would you recommend? These are the 129 db units I currently use, and they are active at night. I buy them, they have not been given to me. But, this is an affiliate link to the units I showed in today's video: https://amzn.to/3K8jQXl Bears do not like noise, they may ignore the lights. 10) What, if anything, can I do to keep my colony count static when I've decided 'm at my limit. 11) Will Flow-Frames fit into the Hive Butler? Hive Butler has continued a discount for my listeners, the code is Fred5 I do not receive any compensation or kickback for any use of that code. I am happy to spread the word about the Hive Butler totes. 12) Considering putting up a hive near a rescue horse farm. Do you think the swarm would avoid the horses or is this a risk? FLUFF - A new version of Honey Bees and their Maladies is available via Penn State: https://extension.psu.edu/a-field-guide-to-honey-bees-and-their-maladies (These will go out of stock very soon) This is my favorite new book for those who are making a decision regarding what path they plan to follow when it comes to hive designs. This is an affiliate link, I have no connection with the seller: https://amzn.to/3THAgsB I paid full price for my copy and am just endorsing it as the content aligns very well with my own observations and practices. Thank you for watching, I wish you all the best in beekeeping!
