The composer and virtuoso Silvius Leopold Weiss is a key figure in the late lute repertoire. His legacy of more than 800 pieces, often grouped in suites or six-movement sonatas, is compared to that of his contemporary J. S. Bach: a German fusion of French and Italian influences.
