Avalanche Forecast: High Risk
Normally I am one of the first to get out there into new snow. Storm days, cold days...I ski them all. But this storm is different.
This snow is coming in heavy on top of wind-scoured ice and wind-loaded pockets. The wind loading has been a lot of fun in places, but neither the wind-loaded areas nor the ice layer is a good place for new powder.
Risks are high. My gut is screaming at me to get the word out and reach out to all of my friends. I have sent out text messages urging people to be careful or even stay home. This storm is one of the most dangerous I've seen.
So. Please please please...avoid avalanche terrain!
Avoid travel under avi paths. Don't take risks in the back country. And even be careful if you decide to go to a resort. Ski Patrol does an amazing job mitigating avalanches and other issues, but they are human and cannot stop all disasters. Do not ignore the risks!
If you do go out, please use your beacon and carry shovel and probe.
Avi pack if you have one!
