Asim Munir Different From Previous Pakistani Generals: Ayesha Siddiqa || The Gist

Ayesha Siddiqa, UK-based Pakistani political scientist and author, who's a Senior Fellow at Department of War Studies in King's College, London, spoke to Nayanima Basu for 'The Gist' on StratNews Global regarding the ongoing heightened tensions between India and Pakistan post the 22 April Pahalgam terror attacks. According to Siiddiqa, Pakistan's current Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir is unlike any other Pakistani Generals preceding him. Munir, she said, is aiming to build a legacy of his own in Pakistan, which can prove to be dangerous for that country. Siddiqa, author of 'Military Inc: Inside Pakistan's Military Economy', said India and Pakistan should avoid waging a full-scale war because unlike 1965 or 1971 when both countries held a full-fledged war, in the current situation both countries possess substantial arms and ammunition and both are nuclear-armed. "War is not easy and I think broadening the war is definitely not easy. The Pakistan Army understands that, that it can be blurred, but not excessively so. You know, that's where we stand at the moment. And, it's a tough corner. And one has always been worried about the presence of militant organizations," Siddiqa also told 'The Gist' over a videoconference platform, adding, both these countries need to have a conversation which has not happened since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
