Art& Reflections on the Funeral Group: Jamie Wyeth and Tanya Sheehan in Conversation
In the summer of 2018, artist Jamie Wyeth received a group of drawings completed in the early 1990s in which his father, Andrew Wyeth, envisioned his own funeral. Displayed publicly for the first time in the Andrew Wyeth: Life and Death exhibition at the Colby College Museum of Art, the artworks now collectively known as the Funeral Group represent deeply personal meditations of an artist preparing for death. In conversation with exhibition curator Tanya Sheehan, Jamie Wyeth will reflect upon the making, rediscovery, and preservation of the Funeral Group drawings. He also will share his unique insights on what it means to mourn, to belong to a community, and to define one’s legacy.
