Art Island S1E4: Michelle Nyberg - Painter
In Episode 4 of ART ISLAND, Zsofin Sheehy joins painter Michelle Nyberg in a few of her favourite places around the island– her outdoor studio, the Sandpiper shoreline, and the Hornby Community Hall. In parallel, we are taken on a journey through Michelle's creative career, one in which she has honed her creative process of absorbing the beautiful details of the world and translating them into paintings characterized by striking movement, colour and whimsy. Michelle credits much of her artistic development to living on Hornby Island, which has opened up opportunities for her to immerse herself in nature, tune into her intuition, and connect with a wide variety of viewers and appreciators through her work. [About Michelle Nyberg] Michelle Nyberg was born and raised in Vancouver BC and has called Hornby Island home since 1999. She studied art at Langara College in Vancouver and NSCAD in Halifax, and went on to have a career in ceramics and then designing and building tiny homes on wheels. Since 2019, she has put her creative energy into experimenting, learning and finding her way with acrylic paint as well as other mixed media. Her paintings are impressions of her island home–details stored in her memory from 20 years of observing the land and sea, mixed with imagination, experimentation and play. Michelle has held five solo shows at Hornby Island’s beautiful Community Hall and has also been part of several group shows on Hornby, Courtenay, Coquitlam, online and most recently at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. www.michellenyberg.com @michelle.nyberg.art [Art Island: Perspectives from a Creative Community] Who are the individuals that comprise the vibrant artistic community of Hornby Island?
