Applying colors on traced bitmaps in CorelDraw
In this video, I demonstrate how to color a traced bitmap in CorelDraw. I start with a scanned image that has already been traced and is ready for coloring. I open a new document and **copy the traced image and the color swatches I'll be using into the new document**.
• First, I create two layers: **"Main" for the line art and "Color" for the fills.** I put the "Main" layer on top and lock it to avoid accidental changes.
• Next, I create a **boundary around the illustration on the "Main" layer**, copy it, and paste it into the "Color" layer. I use this boundary to fill the base color of the image.
• I then use a combination of the **freehand and bezier tools** to add mid-tones, shadows, and highlights, referencing my original image for color placement. I explain my personal illustration style, which is more rough and textured, and how I use a **custom artistic media brush to create highlights**.
• Throughout the process, I emphasize the importance of **keeping the "Main" layer locked and on top**. This ensures the black outlines remain visible over the color fills. I also demonstrate how to adjust the order of objects within the layers.
• Lastly, I show how to **export the finished illustration for web use, ensuring the background is transparent**.
My tutorial might be a little long, but I want to show you my style and how I approach coloring illustrations in CorelDraw. The specific techniques may vary, but **the concepts of layering, using drawing tools, and creating custom brushes are universally applicable**.
