Americans Compare Being Gay in Denmark and Being Gay in America #Denmark #Danmark #GayDenmark In this video, we take a look at what gay life in Denmark is like based on our experience as a gay couple living in Copenhagen. We compare what it's like being gay in Denmark to being gay in America to celebrate Pride month. Throughout the video, we share our experiences from the expectations we had as we planned to move to Denmark and the reality once we arrived and began our life in Copenhagen. We talk about how in Denmark acceptance seems higher simply because conversations are more inclusive with Danes. Things in America are much more heteronormative. This caused us to be curious about LGBT history in Denmark and the march for LGBT rights in Denmark. To learn more on these topics we visited @natmusdk (The National Museum of Denmark) and had a chat with Mette Byriel-Thygesen, one of the museum curators in the exhibit on Modern Denmark. This helped us put the politics into perspective and the comparison between the politics of LGBT Rights in Denmark vs. America. We talked about the political tactics used by America's Republican party to marginalize LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender Americans. This results in transphobia, murder, homophobia and a higher suicide rate for the community. The main difference being the inclusion of allies and how a more progressive country means there is more civic Pride.
