AGI and technological singularity are distractions. It can be fun to anticipate when we'll lose our jobs or when machines will take over, but there are many problems related to AI that deserve much more attention right now: poor governance, lack of transparency, low sustainability, mental health issues. No matter how smart AI or AGI eventually get, we need to understand how these problems affect us and how to address them.
A lot of AI discourse runs in circle talking about the same useless points: "does AI actually reason", "when will we lose jobs", "will AI become evil". That's speculation and hype. I'm not taking a stance in favor or against AI. I think it can be great, but only if it is used responsibly. For that, we need to regulate it more appropriately, explain to the general public how it works, fight inequalities, and address mental health issues. This video is my attempt at bringing more focus on these problems and their solutions.
