In the harsh West Texas landscape where exceptional drought has gripped my region for nearly two years, my Dustups Ranch finally received a blessing - 0.81 inches of rain in a single 24-hour period.
While not enough to dramatically fill the water capture systems I've meticulously constructed throughout my property, this gentle rainfall marks a significant moment for my ambitious desert forest project.
In this episode, I'm capitalizing on this precious rainfall by accelerating my planting efforts on the second terrace. From establishing trees and native grasses on my carefully engineered terraces to harvesting cuttings of desert willow, catclaw acacia, and other native species from Cottonwood Canyon, I'm taking a practical, hands-on approach to desert restoration.
Despite setbacks with some plantings, my determination to transform this arid landscape into a thriving desert ecosystem remains unwavering as I prepare my systems to maximize the impact of every precious drop of rain.
