The top part is where the modules live. There is 2 oscillators, 2 envelopes, 2 low pass gate, a spring reverb, and several utility modules such as a sample & hold, a mixer with atenuator or a clock section with different gate options. You connect them with small patch cables, the same kind you can have with a breadboard to prototype electronic circuit. The bottom part is the sequencer part. It is definitely fun to play with its scale active step and playback functions, to create infinite variations of a given sequence. The Volca Modular is small, it is fun and it is not very expensive for a modular experience. Which makes it a good introduction to modular systems. Is it the one you're looking for?
