In this video we are driving the Stelvio Pass. The Passo dello Stelvio, also known as Stilfserjoch in German, is a mountain pass in the Italian Alps at an elevation of 2758 meters. This pass is famous for its role in the cycling stages of the Giro d'Italia. The Stelvio is one of the highest paved mountain passes in the Alps, although there are a few passes that are higher, such as the Col de l'Iséran. The Col de la Bonette is slightly lower, but due to an additional loop at the top, some consider it to be higher. The Stelvio Pass is located on the border between the Switzerland and Italy. To the east of the pass lie the Ortler Alps, with the Ortler being the highest peak. Nearby is also the Monte Livrio, where summer skiing takes place on the glaciers. To the north is the Dreisprachenspitze, the point where three languages meet: Italian, German, and Romansh. South of the pass lies the Monte Scorluzzo, one of the easiest 3000-meter mountains to climb. The pass is situated in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, which has existed since 1936 and is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Europe. Less than three kilometers from the summit, on the descent towards Bormio, lies the junction to the Umbrail Pass, the highest drivable pass in Switzerland, located just two hundred meters away.
