37884 brings THAT 769 through Carlisle as Service almost gets back to Normal 27 Jan 25
37884 brings 769431 through Carlisle after two weeks stuck at Oxenholme
Meanwhile train services almost get back to Normal
following Storm Eowyn
27 January 25
After being left at Oxenholme for around two weeks after experiencing brake problems en route from Liverpool to Brodie Engineering at Kilmarnock, 769431 was finally on its way. An attempt was made last week but the brakes held firm. Rail Operations Group 37884 Cepheus was at the head of the train, having been involved in the previous attempts.
The train left Oxenholme 3 hours early, leading to a layover at Carlisle to await the relief driver, coming by train from Motherwell.
The Engineer's train to Tyne Yard was quite long with what appeared to be spent ballast - could easily have been just wet fresh ballast. The engineer's train to Basford Hall just ran as a light engine. DRS also sent out a class 68 for a run following maintenance. It went to Tebay and return.
There was still disruption on both the Cumbrian Coast and the Sou Western services to Dumfries. After initial trains on both lines, they resorted to cancelling trains well into the afternoon. Trees or other storm damage some days after Storm Eowyn. I noted that on the Sou Western, scheduled passenger trains were running between Dumfries and Glasgow Central. The odd rail replacement bus ran. The road and other works outside the station didn't help and the Dumfries bound passengers had to walk to Warwick Road to get their service - not easy when road works had to be negotiated en route as well as the passengers unlikely to know where they were walking.
