"Our municipal mayors, you are the frontlines of governance. You are the first to hear the concerns of our people, the first to act on their needs, and the first to bear the weight of their expectations," remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the 2025 League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly at the Manila Hotel in the City of Manila on February 12, 2025.
In his speech, President Marcos Jr. recognized the dedication of local leaders who have committed years — some even decades — to public service. He emphasized the evolving landscape of governance and the urgent need for innovative, responsive and inclusive leadership.
He noted the increasing number of local government units (LGUs) achieving the Seal of Good Local Governance, rising from 493 in 2023 to 714 in 2024. This improvement, he said, reflects strengthened fiscal discipline and transparency at the local level.
The Chief Executive reiterated the Administration’s commitment to streamlining government services, citing the implementation of the Electronic Business One-Stop Shop (eBOSS) and the eLGU platform as crucial steps toward digitalizing local transactions.
Additionally, he highlighted the KALINISAN sa Bagong Pilipinas Program that mobilized over 22,000 barangays in nationwide clean-up efforts, reinforcing the government’s vision of a healthier and more dignified nation.
Furthermore, President Marcos Jr. urged municipal leaders to embrace modernization and collaboration, recognizing the evolving challenges in governance.
“The solutions of yesterday no longer are relevant today, they do not address the problems of today. So, we carry a mission that is more crucial than ever: we must lead, and we must lead with integrity, serve with competence, and govern with a vision that extends beyond our terms in office,” he stressed.
The President called on LGUs to sustain the reforms initiated under his Administration, ensuring that governance remains a force for prosperity and a lasting legacy for future generations.
"Kaya’t umaasa akong magsisikap tayong lahat na maging Bagong Pilipino—isang mamamayang inuuna ang bayan bago ang sarili, kumikilos para sa kapwa, at naniniwala sa kakayahan na ating itataguyod ang ating kinabukasan," President Marcos Jr. concluded in his speech.
