2022 Wyeth Day Lecture: Andrew Wyeth, Life and Death with Dr. Tanya Sheehan, Colby College
Please enjoy our 2022 Wyeth Day lecture—presented by Cornelia Cogswell Rossi Foundation—as Dr. Tanya Sheehan speaks about her researching and curating Andrew Wyeth: Life and Death, an exhibition currently on view at Colby College Museum of Art. Sheehan discusses objects in the exhibition with her insights into how the exhibition evolved, exploring ideas of life, mortality and self-portraiture in this period of work. Tanya Sheehan is William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Art at Colby College, where she teaches American art history. She has been a research fellow at Harvard University’s Hutchins Center for African and African American Research since 2012, and has served as executive editor of the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art Journal since 2015. Dr. Sheehan is the author of Doctored: The Medicine of Photography in Nineteenth-Century America (2011) and Study in Black and White: Photography, Race, Humor (2018). Among her edited books is Andrew Wyeth: Life and Death (2022), which accompanies an exhibition of the same title at the Colby College Museum of Art. Her current projects include a collection of essays on modernism and art therapy and a book that explores the subjects of medicine and public health in twentieth-century art by African Americans.
