1968: What Next for JAGUAR? | Wheelbase | Retro Transport | BBC Archive
Gordon Wilkins reports on the latest Jaguar, the XJ6.
For more than 30 years the Jaguar has been the typical British sports saloon,
but this new model - despite still very much looking like a Jaguar - has lost its iconic cat mascot from the bonnet and its famous walnut finish. Now that Jaguar is in the giant British Leyland Group, will the pressures of mass marketing allow the car to keep its identity or will the Jaguar soon become just another executive saloon?
Gordon talks to Sir William Lyons, the founder of Jaguar, about the new design and his hopes for the future of the company. To see how the new car fares on the road, Michael Frostwick takes the XJ6 for a test drive on the Le Mans circuit.
