I decided to put my budget zero degree sleeping bag (Teton Sports Leef) up against the more expensive Paria Outdoor Products 0 Degree Thermodown. I tested these zero degree sleeping bags outside on consecutive nights and used a thermometer outside, inside the tent, and inside the zero degree sleeping bags so I could look at actual data rather than just go by feel.
